303s launch Sailiability’s new season

New Forest and District Sailability (NFDS), a group that provides low cost dinghy sailing for disabled people of all ages with any disability, is planning to launch two new dinghies early in April, for the start of its 2009 season

Chairman Eric Blyth said, “Over the last year NFDS has received a number of donations, and as we had reached our maximum capacity last season, with 1,532 sailings for people with disabilities, an average of twenty-nine each sailing day, the committee decided to purchase a new two-seater Access 303 dinghy to add to the five we already have. These dinghies are the workhorses of our fleet, allowing a competent sailor to take a beginner or less able person sailing.”

Money pledged in memory of two longstanding members by their families, will enable the purchase of a second Access 303 dinghy and a double-decker road trailer to enable the more competitive sailors to attend racing events nation-wide.

Eric added, “These boats should be delivered and ready for launching at the beginning of April, and will give NFDS extra sailing slots which will allow more disabled people to enjoy sailing.”

With these additions NFDS are looking for more volunteers to help with duties from, safety boat drivers, taking people sailing, to making the tea.  Anyone wishing to sail, volunteer or make a donation should contact chairman, Eric Blyth on 02380867438, or visit the Spinnaker Club, Ivy Lane, Ringwood.  For more information check www.new-forest-sailability.org.uk.
