A ‘Gidday’ For Art Fans

It'll be a ‘gidday’ at a Bournemouth art gallery this weekend (July 18 and 19) when legendary Australian artist Rolf Harris CBE exhibits his work.

The world-famous painter and performer is releasing original artwork from his private collection exclusively to Whitewall Galleries, which will be on sale alongside collectable limited editions.

Eager art fans popping down to the Bournemouth branch of the gallery in Westover Road will be able to snap up authentic Rolf Harris pieces starting at £450. His originals start from around £22,000 with the most recent piece being sold for £85,000 to a UK collector.

Organisers also hope to have didgeridoos on hand for the public to try out, giving the event some additional ‘down-under’ ambience.

This is the second time the gallery chain has showcased Rolf’s work and art lovers are already snapping up his preview pieces on show.

“We’ve sold two this weekend and during the past 12 months we’ve sold £120,000 worth of his original artwork in Bournemouth alone,” said Sarah Hayes, gallery manager.

“Rolf is always extremely popular because of the quality and range of his work.”

He made news recently with his HSBC commissioned painting celebrating ten of the greatest Wimbledon champions – available via Whitewall as a limited edition.

“During the recession we’ve seen an increase in people buying art as an investment,” said Sarah.

“People feel more confident about investing in art and are realising that it doesn’t break the bank.

“We enjoy finding artwork for our clients that they are going to love. The potential return on their investment is an added bonus!”
