“During the summer term at West Moors Middle School, Year 6 pupils have been taking part in a brand new exciting project called Forest School. It's a 6-week course and the pupils are really enthusiastic about coming each week,” writes Rebecca Freeman, the Forest School Press Officer.
Her report continues: “On the first day of Forest School the children created a secret handshake which is performed by and with each pupil, and has to be confirmed before they can enter.
“Mr Anderson, who has been leading this club, has taught the pupils many new skills such as how to use tools properly and how to safely cook on a camp fire. Additionally, the children have learnt to make small keyrings and other woodcraft skills.
“Mr Anderson and his colleagues have been pleased with the response to the club and they hope the pupils will continue to put their new talents into practise.
“Jack Theobald in Year 6 said 'It's all about fun and helping each other, and feeling better about myself.'”
The above report was written by Rebecca Freeman in Year 8, West Moors Middle School who is the Forest School Press Officer.
