Against all odds! Verwood Legion saved

The Dorset town of Verwood is celebrating a victory, which comes after an unexpected turn of events.

The Royal British Legion who pulled the plug on the town’s New Legion club at the end of last year, found a buyer for the premises in December.  In January, the buyer unexpectedly withdrew from the deal and a new one stepped in allowing the local Save the Legion Campaign to seize a lifeline.  The committee is working with a new buyer, who has agreed terms with the RBL.

“This is stunning news,” says Campaign Chair Brian Giddings. “The new buyer sees great potential in the venue being used to support the community.  He has agreed a new long-term lease for the premises with us, making it a win-win position all round: he gets his investment return – and we get to run a first class community club, right here in the heart of Verwood.”
