Appeal after vicious attack at cashpoint

Detectives in Bournemouth are appealing for help in identifying a man captured on CCTV after an unprovoked robbery at a cashpoint in the town.

The incident in which the 36-year-old Bournemouth man was attacked, took place outside the Barclays Bank in Wimborne Road, Winton, around 6.30am on Thursday, 24 June.

The CCTV video clip and a picture have been released in the hope that the public can help identify the man.
Detective Constable Steve May, of Bournemouth CID, said: “This was a brazen, vicious and unprovoked attack against an innocent man who was using a cash machine while on his way to work in Christchurch.

“The robber ran up behind the victim, punched him to the pavement and demanded the man’s PIN number. The victim did not give his PIN number and the robber fled the scene with just the cashpoint card.

“I am appealing to anyone who knows the man in the CCTV footage to contact the police in confidence or the Crimestoppers line anonymously as soon as possible.”

The victim sustained a cut lip and bruising in the attack.

Witnesses and anyone with information should contact Dorset Police in confidence on 01202 222 222 or the free and anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111 where mobile phone tariffs may apply.
