‘Inclusive Education and Autism – Perspective and Practice,’ a conference hosted by the Wessex Autistic Society, will take place in Bournemouth in March.
Keynote speaker, Rita Jordan, is a professor in autism studies, attached to the Autism Team of Studies within the School of Education (University of Birmingham). She comments, “I am delighted to have been invited to attend The Wessex Autistic Society’s conference. Anything I can do to increase understanding, offer support and raise awareness of autism I am more than happy to do.”
Dean Beadle – a young man with Asperger’s Syndrome and motivational speaker – will describe his experience of the education system and how he developed from a ‘problem child’ to an A grade student.
“The conference will examine national strategy, individual experiences, good practice and adapting the school environment for children with autism in mainstream settings,” says Bob Lowndes, Chief Executive of the Wessex Autistic Society. “We had excellent attendance last year and are already seeing a lot of interest in this event. We would encourage people to book their places without delay.”
The event is aimed at school leaders, teachers, teaching assistants, SENCO’s, Educational Psychologists, LA officers, parents and others who have a role to play in securing appropriate education for children with autism.
It will be held at the Carrington House Hotel on Wednesday 10 March. Places are limited and can be reserved online via www.twas.org.uk. Alternatively call Nicky Edwards on 01202 703590.
