Bob welcomes u-turn on dispensing surgeries

Bob has hailed the u-turn as a success for local campaigners and MPs alike. The government has decided not to press ahead with changing the rules on GPs’ surgeries dispensing medicines.

Over 80 constituents have written to Bob regarding the proposal, and many more responded to the Department of Health consultation.
Bob took up the matter with the Secretary of State for Health on behalf of his Dorset constituents because the proposed changes would have meant a severe fall in the service they receive from the NHS. Having met with GPs in Blandford he understood the devastating effect this would have on service.

After thousands of GPs and many opposition MPs wrote to the Government to express their concern over plans to remove dispensing rights from GPs, the Government have performed a complete U-turn and agreed that there should be no change to GP dispensing arrangements.

Following the announcement Bob said: “The proposals were causing much distress to patients who depend on their GP surgery to dispense their medicines. The idea was nonsense from the start and I am delighted the Government have finally seen sense.

“Nevertheless, we still had to go through a worrying consultation process, at a cost to tax payers, when the idea should not have even got that far.”
