Bournemouth’s Race for Life

Over 6,000 women took part in the Bournemouth pier to pier ‘Race for Life’ to raise money for Cancer Research UK on Sunday.

There were so many entrants, the race was run in two parts with a morning and an afternoon event.

With most wearing pink or in fancy dress, the eye-catching spectacle was also a moving tribute to the many loved ones lost to cancer or in support of those currently battling with the disease.

Rachael Mailer and Elaine Wilkins were first to finish in each race, completing the run from pier to pier and back again in around 20 minutes . But the spirit of the race was the taking part and many walked, strolled, took dogs, children, babies in pushchairs and some walked with the help of sticks or in wheelchairs.

The next Race for Life event locally takes place in Poole Park on 28 June.
