Bournemouth teens honoured

Four pupils from a Bournemouth School have received certificates from Dorset Police to acknowledge their extensive work in promoting internet safety to parents and young people.

Safe Schools and Communities Officer, Andy presented Year 10 Glenmoor School pupils Jessica Glenard, Ashleigh Etrata, Lucy Joy and Laura Coles, with the Teenage Award Scheme certificates.

The scheme was launched in January 2010 by Dorset Police to acknowledge good deeds that teenagers do across the county – which often go unrecognised.

Jayne Bond, from Glenmoor School who nominated the four pupils, said, “The girls are members of CEOP (Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre) Youth Advisory panel, where they attend meetings in London every three months to discuss the latest internet laws, software and equipment.

“They also work with a team of other girls in schools to promote e-safety. Recently they took school assembly where they talked about safe and appropriate use of Facebook. They demonstrated how easy it is to set up a fake abusive page and how the abuse can affect individuals.”

Anyone between 13 and 19 years of age can be nominated for an award and the nomination process could not be easier.

To nominate a teenager, simply email teenageawardscheme@dorset.pnn.police.uk with the teenager’s name, contact details, age, address and details of the good deed that they are being nominated for – along with the nominator’s contact details.
