Brother and sister scoop top honours

Brother and sister Piers (11) and Grace (9) Copeland from Parley scooped the top honours in the Ferndown Rotary Charity Fun Run on 21 March at the Avon Heath Country Park.

They competed in the 2.5km race for children, (7-12 years old).  Youngsters Sharon Hutchings (13) from Shaftesbury and Brendan Kirkton (14) from Bournemouth showed their elders a clean pair of heels in taking ‘gold’ for their respective sexes in the 5km event.

Looking like he could do it all again without drawing a breath, Ian Cross from Southampton cruised over the finish line to take first in the premier event, the 10km race, with Sarah Jordan-Whittaker from Blandford finishing with a flourish to take the ladies crown.

Speaking of the event, Geoff Lawrence, President of Ferndown Rotary, said, “Thanks to a break in the weather, we attracted almost two hundred runners and even more spectators - a far better field than we had otherwise hoped for.

“We now look set to achieve our target, to raise at least £1500 to be spent on youth activities in and around Ferndown.’”
