Bus drivers on routes operated by Go-Ahead Group companies in the south will be allowed to park and switch their engines off to join the two minutes silence on Wednesday, 11 November at 11am.
Andrew Wickham, Operations Director of Wilts & Dorset, Bluestar in Hampshire and Southern Vectis on the Isle Of Wight, says that drivers will be encouraged to make the unscheduled stop provided it is safe and legal to do so.
It is expected that the majority of the buses on the network operated by the Go Ahead Group will be able to respect the 90th anniversary of the national act of remembrance that originally was proclaimed by King George V to commemorate the first world war armistice.
“We believe that the thousands of passengers travelling with us at that time will understand and accept a two minute delay to their journey,” said Andrew Wickham. “It is important to show respect to those who not only gave their lives for us in the First and Second World Wars but for the servicemen and women who have died in service in recent and current conflicts.”
