Dorset Police Authority has stepped up its recruitment campaign aimed at attracting new volunteers for custody visiting.
The role involves visiting custody units at police stations in the county to check on the welfare of people being detained.
Two recruitment events are due to take place so that people who are interested in the role can find out more. Those attending will be able to hear from existing custody visitors and police custody officers about what the role involves. The events are being held on Thursday 8 April from 2pm until 4pm and Monday 12 April from 5pm until 7pm and will be in the Conference Centre, Force Headquarters, Winfrith.
Chairman of Dorset’s Custody Visiting Panel, Mrs Kathie Emery, said: “…It is not too late to apply. We are looking for applications from all sections of the community and applications from young people and minority groups are particularly welcome. The volunteers we are seeking need to live in Dorset, be of good character and be over 18. Full training to carry out the custody visiting role will be provided.
“Our information pack will tell you all you need to know about what the custody visiting role involves and how to apply.” Applications need to be in by Friday 16 April 2010.
To request an application pack phone the Custody Visiting Scheme Administrator on 01305 223966, e-mail yvonne.fenwick@dorset.pnn.police.uk or go to our website: www.dpa.police.uk.
