Sixth formers at Oakmead are fundraising for a trip-of-a-lifetime mission to help African slum children.
The sixth formers are part of a group of younger pupils, teachers, and local church and community members hoping to travel to Ethiopia in October with the charity CRED to run activities for children in Addis Ababa.
The sixth formers are trying to raise £1,050 each to pay for the ten-day trip and are organising several fund-raising events and are appealing for business sponsorship.
A car wash was one money boosting idea and others include a raffle, cake sale and an ‘a la carte’ dinner experience.
“We went to Addis Ababa last year with a group of six students and made a massive connection with the children there,” said school chaplain, James Sharp.
“The trip also created a fantastic buzz around school with many more of our pupils eager to take part.
“Our aim is to continue building our special relationship with our African counterparts and create a lasting legacy.”
The activities for the slum children being organised by Oakmead pupils will include arts, crafts and games, while staff will train African teachers to carry out similar work.
