The landmark clock at Castlepoint has to find a new home after plans to introduce a new visitors information centre. Since Castlepoint in Bournemouth opened in 2003, the clock, made of stainless steel tubing standing over 20 ft high, which also gives the day, date and temperature, has stood at the central entrance to the shopping malls.
Peter Matthews, General Manager of Castlepoint, said that the decision to offer the contemporary timepiece FREE to a good cause, or to a corporate organisation for a small donation to the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance, follows the need to make space for the proposed visitor centre.
“As with all art pieces there has been mixed reaction from our shoppers, retailer and staff regarding the removal of the Castlepoint clock but the majority agree that the introduction of a fully staffed information centre would be appreciated,” said Peter Matthews. “There is no reason why it cannot also have a clock.”
