Charity is ‘HemiHelp’ed by marathon Dad

Local dad Richard Oliver completed the London Marathon on 25 April in just over 4 hours.

His inspiration to take part was to raise money for the charity HemiHelp, which supports children who suffer from the condition Hemiplegia. This is a type of cerebral palsy that results from damage to the parts of the brain that control muscle movements. The term hemiplegia means that the paralysis is on one vertical half of the body.

Richard’s daughter Mia has the condition after suffering meningitis as a baby. Moyles Court Sc
hool near Ringwood, where Richard’s son Oscar attends, helped support his fundraising by holding a mufti-day on 26 April, the day after the marathon.

Headmaster Mr Meakin comments, “The challenge of a marathon to raise funds and awareness for good causes is an inspiring undertaking. We are delighted to contribute.”

Richard has exceeded his target of raising £1,500 for HemiHelp. Find out more about the charity at
