Chief Exec awards

Chief Executive of Julia’s House, Martin Edwards has been selected as one of three finalists in the Wessex Charity Awards Chief Executive of the Year category. This award honours the work undertaken by the charity sector in the Wessex region.

Martin was nominated for Chief Executive of the Year by his Julia’s House team, who respected his leadership and contribution to the growth and development of the hospice.

“It’s a real privilege to be a finalist,” commented Martin. “It’s recognition for the outstanding work Julia’s House does for Dorset children, as well as for our approach to managing people. Caring for children with terminal illness can be hugely stressful, so we place special emphasis on ways of supporting staff, providing excellent training, and showing managers the skills of managing people…”

During his three years with the hospice, the charity’s income has increased from £630,000 to £2.3 million, administration has been cut from 26% to 8% and hospice-at-home care for children has increased by 340%. Martin also successfully lobbied the Department of Health to reverse its initial refusal to grant £300,000 for the children’s palliative care in Dorset.

With Martin’s help, Julia’s House became the lead hospice in a national campaign.
