Dorset Wildlife Trust has announced its first ever Community Scarecrow Competition. It is hoped that this exciting event will see communities from all over Dorset getting together, having fun and enjoying the results whilst raising vital funds for their local wildlife. Anyone can get involved, from hamlets to towns, groups to individuals.
The scarecrows will be on public display from the week commencing 28 March for DWT’s special judge to take a look. The winners could take away the grand trophy of Community Scarecrow Competition 2009 Best In Show. Other prizes will include Best Community Effort and Best Children’s Scarecrow.
Kizzy Brown, Marketing and Fundraising Manager at Dorset Wildlife Trust, says: “Your scarecrows can be anything from the traditional scarecrow in dungarees and checked shirt to themed scarecrows – how about characters from history, pop stars or even cartoon characters? The choice is yours!”
Dorset Wildlife Trust is the only local charity working to conserve all the county’s wildlife, whilst standing up for nature against poor development and looking after Dorset’s most beautiful places. Entry to the competition costs £5 per scarecrow, with all the money going directly to conservation. In return, the entrants will receive a pack on how to build their scarecrows and how to work together as a community to potentially take away the big prize.
