Stewart Hearn, the councillor representing the Corfe Mullen South ward on East Dorset District Council has tendered his resignation.
At the annual meeting of the council, he cited difficulties in balancing his commitment to the council with his home life and also policy differences as his reasons for stepping down.
Councillor Spencer Flower, Leader of East Dorset Council, said: “Stewart has been an enthusiastic and passionate member of the council for over a decade. I am sorry to see him go and wish him all the best for the future.”
David McIntosh, Chief Executive of the council, said: “I have received and accepted Stewart’s resignation. It is now necessary for the council to issue a formal notice confirming the vacant seat in Corfe Mullen South ward and a by-election will be held in due course.”
Mr Hearn was first elected to East Dorset District Council in 1999 and was a member of the Planning Committee.
