Taking place in the New Forest, the fundraisers cycled either 10km, 50km or a gruelling 100km in the glorious sunshine. Many of the cyclists work for the hospital Trust or were relatives of patients who have benefitted from the Heart Unit.
Dr Adrian Rozkovec, Consultant Cardiologist, completed the 50km route with some of his colleagues. He said: “Sunday was a really well attended event. We’re hoping that the funds raised will buy several heart monitors that will help us to improve the diagnosis and management of patients with heart rhythm disorders. Some of us were cycling for over four hours but it was worth it.”
Barry Wilson, Events Officer at Bournemouth Hospital Charity, added: “Pedal Power has been a huge success. Everyone really got into the spirit of things and was keen to take part regardless of their cycling abilities. I’m still amazed that someone managed to complete 100km in three hours 17 minutes!
“We’re really looking forward to receiving everyone’s sponsorship money and seeing exactly how much money has been raised – we’ve already surpassed £2,000.”
