Darren's winning streak continues

2008 has been a successful year for Verwood's Paralympic cyclist, Darren Kenny and it has been topped off with an OBE in the Queen's New Year Honours list.

Already the holder of of two golds and a silver medal at the Athens Paralympics in 2004, this year saw Darren Kenny win a further four golds and one silver medal in Beijing making him one of the most decorated sportsman in Dorset. 

His winning streak continued on 30 December, when he appeared on 'Who Wants to be a Millionaire' with Paralympic swimmer Liz Johnson.   After a gruelling set of questions, the pair won £10,000 for their chosen charities: the Piam Brown Child Cancer Fund and Dreamflight.

Darren will be starting the  New Year at an important local event.  Local people can meet him at Verwood Leisure Centre on 2 January at 1pm when he will be officially opening the refurbished gym.
