Design a flag for splash park

Young people in Christchurch are being invited to come up with the design for a flag that will be unfurled when the new splash park on Christchurch Quay is opened in the summer.

Christchurch Council is challenging the young people to produce a design that captures the essence of the town and that of the new splash park play area.

Designs, which should be clear and bold, should be submitted in landscape on plain white A4 paper. If text is used, it should be limited to one or two words. The entrant’s name, age, address, and contact details should be marked clearly on the reverse of the design.

Once the winning design is selected it will be turned into a full size flag which will be flown on the new splash park flag pole. The winner will get the chance to raise the flag along with the Mayor at the official opening of the splash park, which will take place on Tuesday 3 August 2010, which is National Play Day.

Carina Gallacher, Senior Technical Officer at the Council, said: “Many children within Christchurch have been involved in the vision and design process of this water park, and so we would like to extend to them the opportunity to be involved in one of the final stages of this project.”

The competition is open to anyone up to the age of 18 living in Christchurch. Closing date for entries is noon on 9 June 2010.

Entries should be sent to:
