Dorset bus driver retires at 82
Public transport in rural Dorset has lost one of its favourite characters as Terry Greenslade, who turned 82 in May, has retired from Blandford based Damory Coaches.
Originally from Canada, where he had been a member of the famous ‘Mounties,’ Terry came to England in 1973. The following year, in partnership with Joe Willis, Terry founded the Oakfield Travel coach company in the town.
Terry remained with the company when it was sold twice in the early 1990s, coming to Damory Coaches in 1993.
Alex Carter, Managing Director of the Go Ahead Group of companies in the south, which acquired Damory Coaches in 2003, ensured that he was at the depot to wish Terry a long and happy retirement.
“So many of Terry’s colleagues and passengers will miss Terry’s personality and smile every day on the buses,” said Alex Carter. “We believe that Terry may well have been the oldest bus driver in the South who passed his recent annual medical with flying colours. We hope he continues to enjoy good health in retirement.”
