The Dorset flag was flown at half mast outside Verwood’s Memorial Hall in honour of local man, Ron Fardell who died on Saturday, 2 May aged 85.
Ron will be remembered for his huge contribution to the town, not only as a past councillor and his involvement with the Verwood branch of the Royal British Legion, which spanned more than thirty years, but also with the running of the town’s memorial hall.
Both he and his wife, Molly, dedicated their time to actively supporting the hall from 1975-2003. He served as secretary and treasurer throughout the years and after stepping down from the hall committee, he became president, a role he held until he died.
Ron had hoped to be well enough to attend the memorial hall’s golden jubilee, which took place on Saturday, 9 May, but sadly this was not to be. His funeral took place at St Michael & All Angels Church the day before on 8 May when, along with other mourners, the members of the hall committee paid their last respects.
Angela Daymond, vice chair said, “The committee honours Ron and Molly for all they did for the Verwood Memorial Hall.” She went on to explain that Molly, who was the booking officer for twenty-five years, is now in a local nursing home.
