Visitors to Moors Valley Country Park and Forest, near Ringwood will be able to experience the magic of the rainforest from 20 July–2 August.
The Sky Rainforest Rescue pod will bring visitors up close and personal with the amazing wealth of plants and animals that live in the Amazon.
With 3D cinema, interactive floor, video screens and quizzes, this ‘virtual rainforest’ experience helps visitors learn about the people of the Amazon, their culture and livelihoods, and the threat that deforestation poses for the species that inhabit the forest.
“Moors Valley is one of only three places in the UK to host the Sky Rainforest Rescue pod this year,” said Andrew Norris, Forestry Commission Head Ranger.
Secure inside the 12-metre bubble the visual effects are stunning, from the bustling canopy to the crawling forest floor and knowledgeable Pod hosts are on hand to answer questions and share fascinating facts to help everyone understand why preserving the rainforest is so essential.
“With careful management, nature and people are able to flourish side-by-side across Moors Valley’s 750 acre site,” added Andrew. “Sky Rainforest Rescue is aiming to promote a similar partnership on a much larger scale, by making the rainforest worth more to its local communities as a living resource. It is a hugely ambitious project, and one we are more than happy to endorse, aiming to help save one billion trees and protect an area roughly the size of Belgium from deforestation. I’d encourage everyone to make some time to come along and find out more about this amazing environment and the impact its destruction could have on all our lives.”
The Sky Rainforest Rescue pod will be open daily from 9am – 6pm, admission is free although parking charges do apply. For more information go to www.moors-valley.co.uk or call the Rangers on 01425 470721.
