Environmental win for sailing academy

Having already received the ‘Sport Industry Environmental Concern in Sport Award,’ the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy (WPNSA) is once again setting the example of best environmental practice.

A ‘powerPerfector’ unit is to be installed at the Academy following their victory last weekend in a traditional boat race against the powerPerfector founder, Angus Robertson. This green weapon is a voltage power optimisation unit which works by improving grid supplied power quality and adjusting voltage to optimum levels for equipment on site so it works more efficiently and wastes less energy.

The race took place on the waters of the River Alde in Suffolk using ‘Loch Long One Design’ class 21 foot yachts.  The Academy team, consisting of two boats helmed by Nic Asher, currently campaigning for 2012, and Keith Musto, Olympic silver medallist and Director of WPNSA, faced many challenges ahead of the race.  Nic and Keith overcame the local advantage of knowledge garnered from regular sailing at the venue and in this class of boat, narrowly beating the powerPerfector team.
