Fail to stop collision

Police in Poole are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information to come forward after a collision between a van and a motorcycle in the Wallisdown area.

The accident happened just before 6pm on Tuesday, 14 July 2009 along Wallisdown Road in Poole. It involved a blue Suzuki motorcycle and white Ford Escort van.

The blue Suzuki motorcycle was travelling along the inside of a line of traffic on Wallisdown Road, towards Bournemouth, when a white Ford Escort van suddenly pulled out of the line of traffic to turn right into Astbury Avenue.

The van and the motorcycle collided, causing severe damage to the motorcycle and the motorcyclist received slight injuries for which an ambulance was called.

The van driver didn’t stop and continued down Astbury Avenue.

Police Constable Luke Davis, of Poole Police, said: “The van driver will be well aware that he or she hit the motorcycle and yet chose to drive off without stopping. It’s extremely fortunate the motorcyclist was not seriously injured and I need to speak with the van driver, or anyone with any information about the driver or the van, urgently.

“I also need to hear from anyone who may have seen a damaged white Ford Escort van since approximately 6pm on Tuesday, 14 July 2009.

“The van would have received significant damage and is likely to have had dark blue paint scuffs on the driver’s side of the vehicle.

“I’d also like to hear from any car body shops or repair outlets that have carried out any work on a damaged white Ford Escort van or who may have received enquiries requesting quotes on repair or replacement parts, such as the driver’s door, since the date of the collision.”

Anyone with information about the incident should call Dorset Police on 01202 222 222 or the free and anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111 where mobile phone tariffs may apply.
