Ferndown Frisbees fly

A new community sport, Frisbee golf, is causing excitement in the Dorset town of Ferndown.

Launched at Ferndown  Carnival earlier this month, a further session was organised by the Town Council with Matt Cutler, one of England’s leading players, on hand to coach and give a few tips and advice on how to play the game.

Frisbee golf, or disc golf as it is more correctly known is one of the new activities that the government is encouraging to get people out of doors for healthy exercise.

It is played much like traditional golf, but instead of using a club to hit a ball until it ends up in a hole, players use a plastic flying disc, or Frisbee® which is thrown towards a target, usually a metal basket on a pole. The object of the game is to complete each hole in the fewest number of throws.

There are plans to develop a number of disc golf sites around the country and Ferndown is hoping to be included in the development of the sport nationwide.
