People dumping rubbish off on a daily basis at Castlepoint’s neighbourhood recycling centre are being warned that their vehicles are being monitored on a number plate recognition system.
Fridges, armchairs, mattresses and large oil drums are among the items that have been left at the recycling banks located at street level near the entrance to the lower car park at the B&Q end of the shopping complex.
Now improved signage confirming what can be left at the recycling centre with high profile warning notices about the penalties for fly-tippers are being installed in a bid to combat the problem. Castlepoint management are using their number plate recognition system and CCTV to monitor use of the site.
Larry Austin, Street Services Manager at Bournemouth Council, said: “This is a persistent nuisance occurring on almost a daily basis. The council goes in twice a week to remove items that have been dumped and help clear up the site but the problem is constant. Improved signage alerting people to the appropriate use of the neighbourhood recycling centre should help and warning notices about prosecuting fly-tippers will also ensure that people are under no illusion about what is acceptable use of the site.”
