Jubilee Sailing Trust looks forward to welcoming representatives from the Freemasons on board Lord Nelson on Friday, 18 September.
Berthed in Southampton as a special guest at PSP Southampton Boat Show, Lord Nelson will see Freemasons come aboard to present a cheque for £20,000 which will go towards her refit.
The Freemasons will be presenting their cheque to Captain Claire Cupples at 13.30. Brian Bellinger, Provincial Grand Master of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Freemasonry says, “One area of support is for vulnerable people and so we are pleased to make this grant of £20,000 to the Jubilee Sailing Trust to contribute towards the refit of the Lord Nelson to assist the Trust in its outstanding work which reflects and supports our Nation's maritime heritage.”
Lord Nelson is scheduled to be taken into phase 2 of her refurbishment at the end of 2009. The work will be a continuation of £275,000 worth of work, which was carried out in early 2009. It is essential in ensuring that the Jubilee Sailing Trust can continue to offer voyages on board Lord Nelson for the next 20 plus years.
The Freemasons money will contribute towards replacing decking, replacing main generators and lifts and refitting the accommodation.
Jubilee Sailing Trust, based in Southampton, owns and operates 2 tall ships, Lord Nelson and Tenacious, both of which have been specially adapted to enable able bodied and disabled people to sail as part of a tall ship voyage crew.
