Giddy Up paddlers surprise win

Milton Abbas Riding for the Disabled Association volunteers have paddled to victory at the annual Sherborne Country Fair Dragon Boat Race.   And the event was a double win for the charity as the amount raised for the charity is estimated to be over £700.

Giddy Up, the team of men and women raising money for Milton Abbas RDA, had never rowed together before, but beat twenty-five competitor teams in the eagerly-anticipated Dragon Boat Race, including competitors from local businesses, army corps, sea cadets, and many all-male teams.

The victory was a surprise to not just the spectators but to the team themselves.  Team captain, Jody Platten, explained: “Most of our paddlers hadn’t even met before the day of the race!  Everyone worked extremely hard, the team spirit was superb - we won the event because of the amazing motivation and effort that everyone put in. We’re already looking forward to defending our title next year!”

Milton Abbas RDA meets every Friday morning at 10am until 12 noon at Pound Cottage Riding School in Milton Abbas.  For more information or to make a contribution please contact Liz Platten on 01258 881650.
