An eight-year-old from Portfield Road in Christchurch is the winner of the Christchurch Christmas Treasure Hunt.
Harvey Morey won the competition by being the first person drawn who had completed the task of finding posters displayed in 114 shops and businesses in the town centre of Christchurch. Each poster showed a different Christmas-related picture.
Harvey, along with his mum and two sisters, spent many hours going round the shops from Bargates to Bridge Street in order to complete the task.
He has now been given his prize consisting of £100 in cash from Christchurch Chamber of Trade, a mobile phone from O2, a toy from the Surestart Children’s Centre and vouchers from Mathews Shoe Centre, Blend Café and SnowTrax.
Harvey said, “I was really shocked and excited when I heard that I’d won first prize. I enjoyed going round the shops looking for posters, especially when I had to go inside and find where they had been put.”
Vee Young from Christchurch Chamber of Trade said, “We were delighted with the response to this year’s Treasure Hunt as almost 120 people completed the task, which was a little daunting seeing as they had to visit 114 places.”
Paul Riley, Chairman of the Christchurch Christmas Festival Committee, added, “We organised the Treasure Hunt to encourage people to go round the town and visit shops, some of which they may not have been aware of before. We hope that people will have found some interesting retailers which they didn’t know about and which they can now patronise.”
Prizes were also awarded to 2nd, 3rd and 4th prizewinners including vouchers from Adventure Wonderland, Sainsbury’s, Shake Shack, Mr Simms Old Fashioned Sweet Shoppe and gifts from The Red House Museum, Christchurch News and local crafts person, Jacqui Oliver
