Police in Bournemouth are appealing for witnesses and information after a scaffolding hoist was stolen in Boscombe.
The hoist was taken from the roof of Oswald Bailey in Palmerston Road sometime between 6pm on 18 June and 8am on 22 June 2009.
The hefty hoist – which weighs 350kg – has the name ‘Brandon Tool Hire’ etched on the side.
Police Constable Kate Ray, of Bournemouth police, said: “I’d like to speak with anyone with any information about this unusual theft or anyone with information about those responsible.
“The heavy weight of the hoist meant that four workmen were required to manoeuvre it into place on top of the roof when building work commenced and it was secured to other scaffolding at the site when taken.
“It’s therefore very likely that more than one person was involved in the theft and that a vehicle must have been used. This activity is likely to have attracted the attention of passers by in the area.
“I urge anyone who saw anything unusual or suspicious, in and around the Oswald Bailey store in Palmerston Road between Thursday, 18 June and Monday, 22 June to get in touch with me urgently.
“Equally, the item is very distinctive, so if anyone believes they have seen the hoist or have information about its whereabouts, please contact me.”
Witnesses and anyone with information should call Dorset Police on 01202 222 222 or the free and anonymous Crimestoppers line on 0800 555 111 where mobile phone tariffs may apply.
