The latest Heritage Murals have been installed in Ferndown centre precinct.
These are part of the ongoing Art4All initiatives supported by Ferndown Town Council to involve others in artistic community projects which enhance the town.
Local artist Jill McKay says, “Art4All Chairman Gerry Clarke approached me with the idea of producing several mural paintings for the precinct. As part of the Art4All project they were to reflect local history and interests. Ferndown has a strong horticultural and market garden background, so a colourful barrow of flowers was designed, along with a farming scene, typical of the type seen in Ferndown in times gone by.
"To include more recent interests, Gerry requested a dancing couple with two seated ladies to be included. Finding a dancing couple who would agree to pose for a few hours was a bit tricky, so a bit of initiative was required to meet the strict deadline!“
Many locals, friends and students of the Art Trail Centre in Bracken Road, Ferndown were involved in helping to produce the murals which can be seen around Penny’s Walk. Sue White, whose horse Charlie was the model for the haycart scene said, “It was great fun painting the murals, I think they all sit very well around the precinct square. Perhaps outdoor dancing events could be arranged under the plane trees in the Summer!”
Jill says, “we hope that the murals will raise a smile; a lot of time went into their production -thanks go to all those who were involved, they were created with such good spirit, truly reflecting the logo of ‘Art4All’.”
