Chairman of Hoburne Ltd, Rosie Kennar, took part in a 300ft abseil down the Emirates Spinnaker Tower in Portsmouth on Friday 25 August to raise funds for Cancer Research UK as part of the Hoburne Group’s 2017 fundraising challenge.
The Christchurch-based business has set a target of over £100,000 and teams from their seven holiday parks, three golf clubs and their Head Office have been tackling all sorts of challenges from skydives to cake baking, and marathons to ‘Gunging the Manager’ since the start of the year.
Cancer Research UK receives no government funding, and with every penny being donated, their extraordinary work relies solely on the generosity of the public.
The initial fundraising target of £1,000 was quickly achieved and a figure of over £3,700 has been raised so far.
Speaking after the abseil, Rosie said, “I did it! I am more than a little relieved and also a tiny bit proud. I was so lucky with the glorious weather and light wind and yes, it was a fabulous view.
“A huge thank you to everyone who has so generously sponsored me – I am so grateful. The total raised so far is more than I dreamed would be achieved, and it was this huge sum that made the terror of stepping off the platform worthwhile.’
