In bloom judges pay tribute to Christchurch volunteers

Judges from the South and South East in Bloom competition visited Christchurch and praised the commitment of the volunteers who work with the council to keep the borough looking its best.

Judges Andrew Babicz and Jim Buttress spent a morning visiting a whole range of sites, including Mudeford Quay, Steamer Point, Highcliffe Castle and Christchurch Quay.

After meeting the town mayor, Cllr Sue Spittle, they spent the afternoon at Stanpit Marsh which has been entered in a separate category for country parks.

Mr Buttress said “We’re overwhelmed by the commitment of the community and the number of volunteers who play their part in making Christchurch a better place to live and work in. We’re also impressed by the council’s commitment to maintain buildings such as Highcliffe Castle and Place Mill, which shows great foresight. Our overall impression is that there is real love and care which goes into the place, and everyone wants to be a part of it.”

The results of the judge’s visit will be revealed at the South and South East in Bloom Awards ceremony, taking place in September.
