Live longer in East Dorset

If you want to live a long life, then East Dorset is the place for you!

Figures recently released by the Office for National Statistics show that people living in the district are more likely to reach 75 than anywhere else in England and Wales.

Female residents of the district have an 86 per cent chance of surviving to 75, while men have a 77 per cent chance of reaching the same age. These figures compare favourably to all other areas of the country where, for example, some rates for men fall to below 53%.

The Department of Health profile for East Dorset shows that the district's rate of reported crime is one the lowest in the country and early death rates from cancer, heart disease and stroke are low. Smoking and binge drinking rates are also below average.

Cllr Spencer Flower, Leader ofthe Council, said: "East Dorset District Council is extremely pleased to serve an area that is renowned as the healthiest, and also one of the safest, places to live in England and Wales.

"However, the Council is not complacent and is continuing to tackle health problems and obstacles faced within East Dorset. Improvement in the health of the district’s population requires contributions from a wide range of partners, including the local community.  Each plays its part in positively influencing the health of local residents, employers, employees and visitors.

"The Council is committed to actively support its residents, businesses and communities to be physically, mentally and socially healthy."
