Viewers of The One Show were brought into one of Dorset’s best-kept secrets last week when the programme featured the Trehane blueberry plantation at Hampreston near Wimborne.
Filming explored the history of the plantation, the UK’s first, before looking at the health properties of these tasty fruits and sampling a selection of blueberry products. Back in the studio, actor Will Smith and his family tucked in to a couple of punnets before Will Smith accidentally threw a berry down the front of presenter Louise Minchin’s dress!
This weekend you can find out about our local blueberries for yourself on a special Blueberry Workshop at the nursery hosted by local celebrity horticulturist and author, Jennifer Trehane. You’ll discover how to grow blueberries in beds and containers, find out a bit more about how they arrived in Dorset, be able to taste the fruit and buy a range of blueberry-based food and drink and discounted blueberry plants as well as a signed copy of Jennifer’s new book, Blueberries for everyone.
The workshops take place on 24 and 25 July at 2pm, and cost just £5 to include tea and cookies. Advance booking is recommended. PYO blueberries will also be available all weekend from 10am–4pm fruit permitting.
Trehane Nursery is at Hampreston, near Wimborne, call 01202 873490 for more information or go online at www.trehanenursery.co.uk
