MAN JAILED AFTER ATTACKING NEIGHBOUR

A man who hit his neighbour on the back of the head with a vase at a flat in Christchurch has been found guilty of unlawful wounding and sentenced to three years in prison.

Victor John Harfield – whose current address was not given in court – was found guilty of the offence on 16 January 2009 after a one-day trial at Bournemouth Crown Court.

The offence took place on 8 June 2008 at a block of flats in Livingstone Road, Purewell, Christchurch.

Fifty-six year old Harfield struck his 61-year old male neighbour on the back of the head – causing a penetrating wound to the upper neck that required surgery to repair the wound.

Harfield was also found guilty of common assault.

Police and the ambulance service were called to the flats after the attack which caused an arterial bleed as the victim’s jugular vein had been penetrated.

The victim was taken to Poole Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery to save his life and was treated in the hospital’s high dependency unit.

The officer in the case was Detective Constable Neil Robbins of Ferndown CID.
