Mayor raises flag for Armed Forces Day

The Mayor of Christchurch, Cllr Nick Geary was joined by representatives of the Royal British Legion and Help for Heroes to raise a flag at the Old Town Hall to mark Armed Forces Day.

Although the day itself is not until 26 June, councils throughout the country were asked to raise flags at the same time at 10.30am on Monday 21 June, and to keep them flying for the week as an act of support to troops currently overseas as well as the many veterans who have returned home.

On raising the flag, the Mayor said, “It is an honour to see the Armed Forces Day flag flying above the Old Town Hall. It’s so important for everyone to remember our veterans and thank them for all they have done for us – they will never be forgotten.”
