Mayor swaps robes for apron

The Mayor of Christchurch, Cllr Nick Geary, swapped his mayoral robes for an apron when he visited a cookery course for young chefs.

The course run by Christchurch Activities for Young People and supported by Christchurch Food Festival Education Trust was attended by 36 children who cooked up a variety of dishes. Younger chefs made bread, farmhouse biscuits and chocolate brownies, whilst older pupils tried their hands at making teriyaki salmon and pork spring rolls.

The Mayor got a chance to help the youngsters kneading their bread dough and encouraged them with their cooking skills. He said, “I was invited along due to Christchurch Activities for Young People being one of my nominated charities for the year. It was great to see the children getting so involved in making the dishes and really enjoying themselves.

“I’m very grateful to the Food Festival Education Trust for sponsoring this activity as it’s very important for children to learn how to cook proper healthy meals from a young age.”
