More class for Dorset brass

For the first time in the history of Verwood Concert Brass, it entered not one, but two bands in the West Of England Brass Band Championships held in Torquay. (13 March).

The newly formed Verwood B made their debut in the Fourth Section and beat six established bands to come in 14th place.

Verwood B conductor Trevor Naughton said, “I am very proud of the new band’s performance and feel they have made an excellent debut in the contesting world.”

Verwood A competed in the First Section this year, for the first time, and earned a creditable fifth place to the delight of conductor, David Johnson.

Our picture shows band President Pam Reeks receiving an enthusiastic hug from David Johnson just after the results were announced. David declared it, “A fantastic day for both the Verwood Concert Brass bands.”

Bournemouth Concert Brass came second in the First Section.
