Bob Walter MP is supporting Wimborne’s bid to create Dorset’s second Business Improvement District (BID).
A meeting will be held in the King’s Head Hotel on Friday, 21 August at 3pm when the North Dorset MP will meet representatives from Wimborne’s business community.
At the invitation of committee member and local businessman, Chris Slocock, Bob will attend a meeting of the Wimborne BID committee in order to see how the project is developing and offer his own ideas and experiences.
Bob said, “I think that Business Improvement Districts provide a great incentive for local businesses to become more actively involved in the management of their commercial area whilst inspiring greater corporate responsibility.
“Funds raised from the BID levy will, if the plan is voted in, enable local businesses to take direct action to improve aspects of the town’s appearance, profile and trade, thus seeing a direct benefit from what they put in – something that currently does not happen with business rates.
“I’m looking forward to seeing how the project has progressed on Friday and contributing in my own small way to the consultation process. Wimborne trade has been hit hard by the economic recession and recent events – including the Canford Bridge closure and post office fire – so it’s good to see local business fighting back with plans for improvement and looking to the future.”
