Over 200 young trees are now on their way to a conservation project near Wareham, thanks to an initiative between Forest FM in Verwood and Dorset Scouts.
The trees will form part of an ongoing project to restore heathland areas at the 95 acre Camping and Activity Centre at Buddens Farm, used by the Scouts and other community youth groups.
Forest FM had offered the trees free of charge as part of their weekly gardening feature, and gardening contributer Sue Watts-Cutler was delighted to hear about the Buddens Farm project.
“Planting native trees which really belong here is so important for wildlife”, she says, “because they provide the shelter and foods such as berries, nuts and caterpillars, which our birds and animals need. Forestry plantations of dense conifers that don't belong here have little to offer our wildlife in comparison.”
