Cllr Mike Dyer has been elected as the new chairman of East Dorset District Council.
He joined the council in 1999 and has been the chairman of the planning committee for the past four years and lead member for environment. He is also a district councillor for the St Leonards and St Ives East ward and a former chairman of St Leonards and St Ives Parish Council. Last year he was vice-chairman of East Dorset District Council.
Of his most recent appointment, he said, "It is with great pride that I accept this ambassadorial role for East Dorset,"
During the next twelve months, he will be raising funds for Woofability, an organisation which trains dogs to assist physically disabled people in their day-to-day lives by doing small chores, as well as being a companion to those who live alone.
Vice-chairman is Cllr Derek Burt.
