New Dial-a-Bus for Christchurch

Christchurch residents who find it difficult to access ordinary bus services will be riding on a new bus as part of the Christchurch Dial-a-Bus scheme.

The scheme has now procured its first 17-seater accessible minibus. The overall project was financed by funds from the Big Lottery administered Transition Fund, Bournemouth Airport Community Fund, Christchurch Borough Council and the Christchurch Community Partnership.

The new bus will be launched on Thursday, 16 February in Saxon Square at 3pm by the Mayor of Christchurch, Cllr Sue Spittle and the Friends of Christchurch Dial-a-Bus along with representatives from the organisations funding it.

Christchurch Dial-a-Bus scheme provides 'door to door' wheelchair accessible transport for people with disabilities of all ages who find it difficult to use existing public transport. The specially-adapted bus and trained staff take passengers to various destinations across Christchurch and beyond.  It operates four days per week and can be used for shopping, banking, visiting hospital and excursions.

Leaflets describing excursions for the first quarter of 2012 are available at Christchurch and Highcliffe libraries and also at Christchurch Information Centre in the High Street, where bookings can be made. Booking for shopping trips can be made by calling 08454 580883.
