Nine bronze achievers

Nine young people from Christchurch have been presented with their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Level Certificates by the Mayor of Christchurch, Cllr David Flagg.

The young people, all now aged 16, were students at The Grange School when working towards the awards and attended the Christchurch Open Award Centre to achieve their qualifications.

To be reach the bronze level, they had to undertake some volunteering and a physical activity and master a skill, which ranged from football coaching to interior decorating, over the course of three to six months. They also had to take part in a two-day/one-night unsupervised camp and walk.

Jae Harris, one of the Group Leaders, said: “I’m really proud of the achievements of these young people. They have all shown a great deal of determination in getting through the tasks they had to do in order to reach this level. I hope that what they’ve learnt will hold them in good stead in the future.”

The Mayor added: “These young men and women have shown what I’ve always believed – that there are a tremendous number of young people in Christchurch who are interested in making a positive contribution in the community. I wish them all well for the future, particularly those who are going on to take the silver award.”
