Nursery’s Yuletide visits BBC

Last week saw a small plant from a specialist Wimborne nursery travel all the way to BBC Gardeners’ World for a cameo role in an item about woody plants.

The plant was the delightfully named Camellia ‘Yuletide’, and it travelled from specialist camellia grower Trehane Nursery for its first television appearance.

Chosen, and named, for its ability to flower right into the festive season, the autumn flowering Yuletide is a beautiful, slow growing camellia with single, brilliant fiery red blooms centred with bright yellow stamens. The blossoms contrast wonderfully with its small dark evergreen leaves, making it a rather exceptional plant whose traditional festive colours make it a visual treat at a time of year when many gardens can look rather sad.

Unusually for a camellia, Yuletide can also bring a splash of Christmas colour inside. Freshly-picked blooms can last two or three weeks in water, providing abundant Christmas cheer both inside and out.

On BBC Gardeners World, Head of Woody Plants at RHS Wisley, Colin Crosby described Yuletide as having the “most beautiful red flowers, really sweetly scented”.

If you want to bring some truly festive colour to your garden, Yuletide is available now. Orders must be placed by 18 December to guarantee delivery prior to Christmas – stock permitting.
