Vocational training for pupils at Oakmead College of Technology is being applauded at a national level.
The college is celebrating an Investor in Careers Award for its excellence in courses such as health and social care, construction, media, childcare, beauty and catering.
The awarding of this national benchmark is thought to be the first in the Bournemouth area for a decade. Senior staff have spent the last 18 months working hard to meet all the stringent criteria needed to be considered for the award.
Assessors praised Oakmead’s variety of work-related learning and enterprise opportunities, its direct contact with employers and the way it identifies and supports students of all types.
“This award has given us the tools to drive our own improvement and be properly accountable for services delivered,” said Allyson Carney, vocational centre manager at Oakmead.
“All young people need impartial and good quality information, advice and guidance to help them make key life choices.”
