The first Give and Take Day organised by Christchurch Borough Council saw around one hundred kilograms of items taken away for reuse by people attending the event.
Sixty five residents travelled to Stanpit Scout Hut to deposit items which were no longer wanted, or to take items which were needed, or both – all for free.
Matthew Boulter, Recycling Officer at Christchurch Council was pleased with the attendance, which he said was encouraging and added, “I’m sure that, when more people get to know that there are other ways of recycling things they no longer want, these Give and Take Days will become more popular.”
The event also included representatives from Dorset Energy Advice Centre and members of Dorset Reclaim, an organisation which reuses unwanted items of furniture.
Further Give and Take Days will be planned later in the year. Meanwhile, residents in West Moors are having a Give and Take Day on 6 June between 9.30am-12.30pm. See the mags4dorset May news archive for more details.
