Open Day at Fernhill with Dr Hilary Jones

TV personality, Dr Hilary Jones, attended the open day of Colten Care’s new specialist dementia home in Ferndown, on Thursday, 22 April.  He has been involved with Colten Care for a number of years and had plenty of praise for the standard of care the company offers.

After explaining about dementia, a degenerative condition of the brain, he said, “Many residential care homes are unable to look after people with dementia because those suffering with the condition need to be cared for by nurses and staff with special skills, especially in the later stages when relatives can no longer cope.”

Dorset,” he said, “has one of the highest percentages of people living with dementia.”   He also pointed out that statistically, it is steadily on the rise because people live longer.

He applauded Fernhill as being designed from the foundations up especially for people with dementia and pointed out the specific colour schemes, memory boxes and secure garden along with the very best dietary care, all of which is important, for the residents.

During the open day there was a 'cake' competition with five different chefs, all from Colten Care - Noom's cake was the winner (as judged by Dr Hilary and Ian Hudson). Noom is based at Fernhill.
